Money and self-worth is connected

🌿 Money, Self-Worth, and the Quiet Pressure We Carry

October 30, 2025•3 min read

When we think about money, we often imagine numbers, budgets, or financial security. But for many women, money isn't just about numbers—it carries emotions, memories, and beliefs that have quietly shaped us for years.

Perhaps you've noticed that in yourself. You want something, yet you hesitate. You know you could ask for more, but something holds you back. The moment money enters the conversation, you feel yourself becoming a little tighter, a little smaller. And often, it's difficult to explain why.

Over the years, I've come to believe that the way we relate to money often has very little to do with money itself. More often, it reflects the way we relate to ourselves. Questions such as Am I allowed to want more? Am I worthy of receiving? Is it okay for life to feel easier? rarely appear loudly. They live quietly beneath the surface, influencing our choices without us even noticing.

Many women learned very early in life to be the "good girl." To be polite, to avoid asking for too much, to adapt, and to make themselves smaller so everyone else could be comfortable. Those patterns don't simply disappear as we grow older. They quietly follow us into our relationships, our work, our boundaries—and often into our relationship with money.

Perhaps you've caught yourself thinking, I have to work hard to deserve money. Or, I shouldn't ask for too much. Or maybe, It's still not enough. Even when there is enough, it often doesn't feel that way inside.

Our body usually tells the story long before our mind understands it. We notice tension in our shoulders, a tightness in our chest, or a knot in our stomach. We hesitate before asking for what we truly want. We speak a little more quietly. We make ourselves a little smaller. Not because we aren't capable, but because somewhere inside, it still doesn't feel safe to take up more space.

When we gently look beneath the surface, we often discover that this isn't really about money at all. It's about how much space we've allowed ourselves to occupy. It's about how comfortable we feel receiving. It's about whether we believe our needs matter just as much as everyone else's.

To me, thriving isn't about earning more money. It's about no longer making yourself smaller. It's about letting go of the guilt that tells you to settle for less, releasing the fear that stops you from asking for what you need, and allowing yourself to believe that you deserve to take up space in your own life. As that quiet inner pressure begins to soften, something else naturally begins to grow: more freedom, more choice, more trust, both within yourself and in the way you move through the world.

Perhaps you'd like to pause for just a moment. Take one slow breath and gently ask yourself, How does the subject of money feel in my body? Does it feel open, or does it feel tight? Then ask yourself one more question: Where am I holding myself back, even though part of me longs for something different?

You don't need to change anything today. Simply noticing is enough.

If you recognise that money has become connected with pressure, guilt, or the habit of making yourself smaller, don't begin by trying to fix your finances. Begin by helping your nervous system feel safe.

My free guided audio, Give Yourself 5 Minutes, combines gentle tapping and breathing to help your nervous system settle—not only around money, but also around self-worth, boundaries, and many of the quiet pressures we carry every day.
