✨ Coming Home to Myself

December 14, 2025•4 min read

There was a time in my life when I felt very much like Cinderella. Not because I was waiting for someone to rescue me, but because I had quietly become the woman who took care of everyone else. I made sure everything was running smoothly. I carried responsibility, thought ahead, and tried to make life easier for the people around me. From the outside, everything looked fine. Inside, I was tired.

I smiled even when I didn't feel like smiling. I kept going long after I knew I needed to stop. Little by little, I became smaller. Not physically, but inside. I stopped asking myself what I needed and focused instead on what everyone else expected from me. Looking back, I don't think it happened overnight. It happened so gradually that I hardly noticed.

Perhaps you know that feeling yourself.

Many women carry an invisible weight. They live lives that were never consciously chosen but slowly grew out of responsibility, expectations, and patterns they learned years ago. We become good at functioning because people depend on us. We keep going because we've always managed to. Until one day we quietly realise that somewhere along the way, we've lost the connection with ourselves.

That was exactly where I found myself.

From the outside, I appeared organised, reliable and successful. Inside, I felt strangely disconnected from the woman I used to be. My turning point wasn't dramatic. There wasn't one life-changing event. It was a quiet knowing. A feeling that whispered, I don't want to live like this anymore.

I realised that I could hardly feel myself. I no longer noticed my own boundaries. I ignored my needs. Even joy had become something distant. My body had been trying to get my attention for a long time, and eventually I could no longer ignore it.

Looking back now, it feels as though my inner light never disappeared. It was simply hidden beneath years of pressure, expectations and old stories about who I believed I needed to be.

Instead of trying even harder, I slowly began listening.

I became curious about my emotions instead of pushing them away. I started noticing the patterns that kept repeating themselves. I learned to take the tension in my body seriously instead of simply carrying on. And I discovered Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), which became one of the gentle ways I learned to work with my fears, my self-doubt, my perfectionism and that constant feeling that I always had to do more.

Nothing changed overnight.

But little by little, I did.

I became calmer. Kinder to myself. More honest about what I was feeling. I slowly rediscovered the woman who had been waiting patiently beneath all those layers—the woman who could feel deeply, receive support, recognise her own worth and understand that she didn't have to earn it through constant effort.

Somewhere along this journey another image came into my life. I call her The Champagne Woman.

For me, she isn't about luxury or perfection. She represents something much quieter than that. She reminds me of confidence, joy, freedom and the permission to fully choose my own life. She is the woman who no longer measures her worth by how much she gives, how much she achieves or how well she keeps everything together. She knows that she is already enough.

Today I still think of Cinderella sometimes—not because I want to go back, but because she reminds me how easily women forget themselves while caring for everyone else.

If you'd like, pause for a moment as you're reading this. Place one hand on your heart and the other on your stomach. Take one slow breath and gently ask yourself:

Where in my life am I functioning more than I'm truly living?

You don't need to change anything today. Simply noticing is enough.

Perhaps that one small moment of awareness becomes the beginning of something new. Perhaps it allows you to meet yourself with a little more kindness than you did yesterday.

I don't believe this journey is only for a few women. I believe it's possible for every woman who feels that quiet longing for something different. Not by becoming someone else, and not by trying harder, but by slowly coming home to herself.

And if you're reading these words today, maybe this is where your own journey begins. 💛
