🌿 When Your Mind Won't Slow Down

July 19, 20262 min read

You are sitting on the sofa in the evening, feeling tired. Maybe the day has been over for a while.

And still, your mind keeps going.

The email you still wanted to answer.
Tomorrow’s appointment.
Something you said that you are now going over again.
All the things you need to remember.

You would like to settle down. But inside, you are still in the middle of the day.

Many women I work with know this feeling. From the outside, they seem to manage a lot. They carry responsibility, care for others, keep track of things, and keep going – even when a pause would have been needed a long time ago.

Their minds often stay on alert.

They are already looking for the next thing that needs to be done. They check whether something has been missed. They think ahead and try to find solutions.

This is not simply a bad habit. And it does not mean that there is something wrong with you.

Your system has learned that being watchful helps. Thinking ahead helps. Keeping everything in view helps.

Perhaps this has carried you through many full and demanding days.

But what was helpful for a long time can also become tiring. Your mind may not get a clear signal that it is allowed to pause now.

Then even a quiet evening does not feel truly quiet.

A small practice for a busy moment

When you notice that your mind is racing, pause for a moment.

Breathe in slowly through your nose and count to four.

Then breathe out a little more slowly and count to six. You can let out a gentle sigh if that feels right for you.

Repeat this three times.

Often, it is enough when there is a little more space between two thoughts.

You may notice: I am more than my to-do list. I do not have to follow every thought immediately. I do not have to keep thinking it through.

I can let it pass. I can observe it for a moment. I can take one small step back and remind myself: Just because I have a thought does not mean it is the whole truth.

The way out of inner pressure rarely begins with a big step.

Often, it begins with listening to yourself before you carry on.

Give Yourself 5 Minutes to slow down

Sometimes inner pressure shows up not only in our minds. In the next article, we will look at how the body can show us that we have been carrying a lot for a long time.
